عبد الله بن المبارك
Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak al-Marwazi (118–181 AH) was one of the most remarkable scholars of the Islamic classical period, combining mastery of hadith, fiqh, Arabic literature, and physical jihad. Born to a Turkish father and Khorasani mother, he studied under Imam Malik, Sufyan al-Thawri, and other leading scholars, and himself became a master of hadith. He is said to have been the first to compile a book specifically on the topic of jihad. He divided his time between scholarship and jihad on the frontier with the Byzantines. He was called 'the Prince of the Believers in hadith' by his contemporaries.
