Muhammad Abdullah Siraj ad-Din al-Husayni al-Halabi (1342-1422 AH / 1924-2002 CE) was a Syrian Islamic scholar from Aleppo renowned for his deep devotion to the prophetic tradition and his scholarly works on the attributes and character of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He studied under the leading scholars of Aleppo including Sheikh Ragib at-Tabbakh and others.
Siraj ad-Din was a Hanafi scholar and a practitioner of the Naqshbandiyyah Sufi path. He was known for his extraordinary love of the Prophet ﷺ and his dedication to spreading knowledge of the Prophetic Sunnah. He taught in Aleppo for decades, training many students.
His best-known works include Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ (Our Master Muhammad ﷺ), a comprehensive work presenting the Prophet's ﷺ birth, lineage, character, and attributes; and an-Nur al-Muhammadi al-Mubarak (The Blessed Muhammadan Light), a work on the spiritual reality and light of the Prophet ﷺ. He also wrote detailed works on Prophetic characteristics (shama'il), praise poetry, and related subjects.
Siraj ad-Din was known for his gatherings of dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and mawlid (celebration of the Prophet's ﷺ birthday), which were characterized by great reverence and spiritual intensity. He trained students in both the outer Islamic sciences and the inner spiritual path.
He passed away in Aleppo in 2002, deeply mourned by his students and the scholarly community of the city. He is remembered as one of the great lovers of the Prophet ﷺ in the Syrian scholarly tradition of the 20th century.
