Hafsa bint Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with her) was a wife of the Prophet ﷺ and one of the Mothers of the Believers. She was the daughter of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), the second Caliph, and became the Prophet's wife after she was widowed following the Battle of Badr. She was known for her deep piety, her long fasts, and her extended standing in night prayer. She narrated approximately sixty hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on topics including prayer, fasting, and prophetic conduct. She is historically significant as the custodian of the original written compilation of the Quran produced during the caliphate of Abu Bakr: the scrolls were entrusted to her for safekeeping and later served as the basis for the Uthmanic standardization under Uthman ibn Affan. She passed away in Medina around 45 AH. Her narrations are found in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections.
