عبد المحسن بن حمد العباد
Abdul-Muhsin ibn Hamad ibn Abdul-Muhsin al-Abbad al-Badr (b. 1934 CE / 1353 AH) is a Saudi hadith scholar who served as the vice-chancellor of the Islamic University of Madinah and has been one of the most prominent teachers at the Prophet's Mosque. Born in Zulfi in the Riyadh region, he studied under leading Saudi scholars and has devoted his life to teaching hadith and its related sciences.
Al-Abbad's most important scholarly contribution is his extensive commentary on Sunan Abi Dawud, delivered as lectures over many years at the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah and compiled as Sharh Sunan Abi Dawud. This multi-volume work provides detailed explanation of the hadith texts, their chains of narration, and their legal implications. He has also authored Sharh Arba'in an-Nawawiyyah, a commentary on an-Nawawi's forty hadith, and numerous treatises on creedal topics and scholarly methodology.
Al-Abbad played a central role in shaping the Islamic University of Madinah during its formative years and has been one of the most senior and respected teachers in the Prophet's Mosque for decades. His lectures are attended by students and scholars from around the world, and his recordings are widely distributed. He is known for his balanced approach, his gentleness with students, and his vast knowledge of hadith and the biographical literature of narrators. He continues to teach and contribute to Islamic scholarship from Madinah.
