Abu Bakrah al-Thaqafi, may Allah be pleased with him — this is another occurrence of the same companion known as Abu Bakra, reflecting minor spelling variation in how his kunya was recorded across different hadith chains. His full name was Nufay' ibn al-Harith al-Thaqafi, and he received his kunya from the manner of his escape from Ta'if to join the Muslims. He settled in Basra and became one of its foremost companions, transmitting a significant body of hadiths to the Tabi'in of that city. His reports in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim include the famous statement of the Prophet ﷺ about not returning to kufr after him by striking each other's necks. He also transmitted the Prophet's guidance about the rights of the day of Arafah, the sanctity of the month of Dhul Hijja, and the inviolability of Muslim blood and property. He declined to participate in the Battle of the Camel between Ali and A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with them, citing the prophetic warning about the fitna. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and across the Sunan collections.
