This narrator refers to AbuMusa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, who is the father of Abu Burda ibn Abi Musa al-Ash'ari. AbuMusa al-Ash'ari was one of the most distinguished companions of the Prophet ﷺ from Yemen, known for his scholarship, his extraordinary Quran recitation, and his service as governor of Basra and Kufa. When hadiths are transmitted through the chain 'Abu Burda from his father,' the father is AbuMusa al-Ash'ari. Abu Burda was himself a prominent Tabi'i scholar and judge in Kufa, and many important hadiths from AbuMusa al-Ash'ari were preserved precisely through this father-son chain. These narrations cover a wide range of topics including prayer, character, the etiquette of reciting the Quran, and eschatological matters. AbuMusa al-Ash'ari narrated hundreds of hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ, and those transmitted through his son Abu Burda form a substantial and widely cited strand of his narrations in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all major Sunan collections.
