أبو هريرة
Abu Hurayrah Abd al-Rahman ibn Sakhr al-Dawsi al-Yamani was the most prolific narrator of prophetic hadith, with over 5,374 narrations attributed to him. Born in Yemen, he accepted Islam in 7 AH and devoted himself entirely to accompanying the Prophet ﷺ, joining the Ahl al-Suffah (the people of the mosque's covered platform who dedicated themselves to learning). He said: 'My Ansar brothers were busy with their farms, and my Muhajirun brothers were busy in the markets, but I had no worry except filling my belly — so I stayed with the Prophet.' His memory was so extraordinary that some doubted him, which the Prophet ﷺ himself addressed. He served as governor of Bahrain under 'Umar. He died in Madinah in 57 AH.
