Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (RA), whose full name was Uqba ibn Amr ibn Tha'labah al-Badri al-Ansari, was from the Ansar of Medina and participated in the Second Pledge of Aqabah, pledging his allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ before the Hijra. He earned the epithet 'al-Badri' because he lived near the well of Badr — though some scholars differ on whether he participated in the battle itself. He narrated approximately 103 hadiths covering prayer, the nature of faith, the Day of Judgment, and the Prophet's character. Among his most famous narrations is the hadith that connects proper performance of prayer with charity, and another warning about innovation in worship. He settled in Kufa after the Prophet's death and served as an important religious authority there. After Hudhaifa ibn al-Yaman's death he served briefly as governor of Kufa. He passed away during the caliphate of Muawiya, around 40–42 AH.
