Zahdam ibn Mudrab al-Jarmi al-Basri was a Tabi'i narrator from Basra who transmitted hadiths from senior Companions including Abu Musa al-Ashari (may Allah be pleased with him). He is known for a narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari in which Abu Musa al-Ashari visited a host from the Jarmi tribe and was served chicken, then witnessed the host's refusal to eat it — whereupon Abu Musa explained that he had seen the Prophet ﷺ eating chicken, and expressed surprise at the avoidance, which had no Islamic basis. This narration became a reference point in discussions of the permissibility of chicken and the broader principle that no food is forbidden unless explicitly prohibited in the Quran or Sunnah. Zahdam is considered a reliable Tabi'i narrator and his reports from Abu Musa are accepted in the major collections. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari. He is regarded as a trustworthy link in the Basran chain of transmission.
