أحمد بن يحيى النجمي
Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Muhammad an-Najmi (1927-2008 CE / 1346-1429 AH) was a Saudi scholar who served as the Mufti of the Jazan region in southern Saudi Arabia. Born in the village of Najamiyyah near Jazan, he studied under local scholars before pursuing higher studies, learning from senior scholars of the kingdom including Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Aal ash-Sheikh and Shaykh Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz.
An-Najmi was known as a staunch defender of the Salafi methodology and an outspoken critic of innovations in religion (bid'ah). He authored numerous works on Salafi aqeedah, refutations of deviant groups, and issues in contemporary Islamic thought. Among his works are Radd al-Jawab ala al-Kawthari and various treatises on matters of creed and methodology. He was also a teacher who trained scholars in the Jazan region.
He served as the Mufti of Jazan for many decades and was a member of scholarly councils in Saudi Arabia. His approach to aqeedah was firmly Athari, following the methodology of the scholars of Najd in rejecting theological speculation and affirming the divine attributes as they appear in the Quran and Sunnah. He was particularly known for his detailed responses to groups he considered to have deviated from the Salafi path.
An-Najmi's influence extended through both his books and his students. He passed away in 2008, having dedicated his scholarly life to preserving the Athari creed and Salafi methodology in the Jazan region. He is remembered as one of the distinguished regional scholars of Saudi Arabia whose work complemented the broader efforts of the major national-level scholars of his time.
