Salih ibn Fawzan ibn Abdullah al-Fawzan (b. 1933 CE / 1352 AH) is a senior Saudi scholar and member of the Council of Senior Scholars, the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Ifta, and several other prominent religious bodies in Saudi Arabia. Born in the village of ash-Shamasiyyah in the Qasim region, he studied at the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University and later earned a doctorate in fiqh.
Al-Fawzan has authored numerous works on Islamic jurisprudence, creed, and contemporary issues. His most widely studied work is al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi (The Concise Juristic Summary), a clear and comprehensive manual of Hanbali fiqh that became a standard textbook in Saudi Arabian religious institutions. He also authored Sharh al-Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah, a commentary on Ibn Taymiyyah's creedal text; I'anat al-Mustafid bi-Sharh Kitab at-Tawhid, a commentary on the creedal work of Muhammad ibn Abdul-Wahhab; and al-Irshad ila Sahih al-I'tiqad, a work on correct Islamic beliefs.
Al-Fawzan is one of the most prominent religious figures in Saudi Arabia and serves as a member of the highest religious advisory bodies in the kingdom. He has taught at the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University for decades and his students include many of the current generation of Saudi scholars and judges. His works are widely used in Islamic educational curricula and his legal opinions carry significant weight in the Saudi scholarly establishment.
