Biography
Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Hatab al-Ru'ayni (902–954 AH / 1497–1547 CE) was a Moroccan-born Maliki scholar who spent much of his life in Tripoli and eventually settled in Mecca. His most important work, Mawahib al-Jalil fi Sharh Mukhtasar Khalil (The Gifts of the Majestic in Commentary on the Compendium of Khalil), is a six-volume commentary on Mukhtasar Khalil and is considered the most comprehensive and authoritative commentary on that foundational Maliki text. His work synthesizes views from across the Maliki tradition and is a major reference in Maliki jurisprudence.
