Ahmad ibn Ali Abu Bakr al-Razi al-Jassas al-Hanafi (305–370 AH) was the leading Hanafi jurist of Baghdad in his era and the imam of the Hanafi school in Iraq. His major work Ahkam al-Quran (Rulings of the Quran) is the most comprehensive Hanafi commentary on the legal verses of the Quran and remains the primary reference for Hanafi interpretation of Quranic law. He also wrote Usul al-Fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence) which was foundational in Hanafi legal methodology. He was a student of Abu al-Hasan al-Karkhi and transmitted the Hanafi tradition to later generations.
