Biography

Al-Nu'man ibn Muqarrin al-Muzani was a Companion who converted to Islam early and participated in many campaigns. He was appointed by Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab to command the Muslim forces at the Battle of Nihawand (642 CE/21 AH) — the decisive battle that effectively ended Sassanid Persian resistance. He was martyred in this battle, which Muslims called 'the Conquest of Conquests' (Fath al-Futuh) for its historical significance.
