القسطلاني
Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Qastalani (1448-1517 CE / 851-923 AH) was a prominent Shafi'i scholar and hadith master from Cairo who is best known for his celebrated commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari. He studied under many of the leading scholars of Mamluk Egypt and became one of the foremost authorities on hadith in his generation.
His magnum opus is Irshad as-Sari li-Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari (The Guide of the Night Traveler to the Commentary of Sahih al-Bukhari), a comprehensive and meticulously detailed commentary that draws upon earlier works by Ibn Hajar, al-Ayni, al-Kirmani, and others while adding his own valuable insights. This commentary became one of the three most widely studied explanations of Sahih al-Bukhari and is particularly valued for its clarity and accessibility. He also authored al-Mawahib al-Ladunniyyah bi-l-Minah al-Muhammadiyyah, an extensive work on the biography and virtues of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Al-Qastalani combined expertise in hadith with devotion to the Prophet's legacy, and his works reflect both rigorous scholarship and deep love for the Prophetic tradition. His commentary on Bukhari continues to be studied and referenced in Islamic institutions worldwide, and al-Mawahib al-Ladunniyyah received a famous super-commentary by az-Zurqani that further extended its influence.
