الشاطبي
Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Musa ibn Muhammad al-Lakhmi al-Shatibi al-Andalusi al-Maliki was born in Granada, Al-Andalus, and became the most important Maliki usul al-fiqh scholar of the medieval period. His al-Muwafaqat fi Usul al-Shari'ah (Harmonizations in the Foundations of Islamic Law) is a revolutionary work that systematized and expanded the concept of maqasid al-shariah (the objectives and purposes behind Islamic law), going beyond previous usul works by explaining the higher aims behind legal rulings. He identified five universal necessities (daruriyyat): religion, life, lineage, intellect, and property. His al-I'tisam is the most important classical work on bid'ah (religious innovation). He died in Granada in 790 AH.
