الترمذي
Muhammad ibn 'Isa ibn Sawra ibn Musa al-Tirmidhi al-Dabbi was born near Tirmidh (modern Uzbekistan). He was a student of Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud. His Jami' al-Tirmidhi (also called Sunan al-Tirmidhi) is one of the six canonical hadith collections. It is distinctive for including: after each hadith, al-Tirmidhi's own grading (hasan, sahih, da'if, etc.) and notes on which scholars held which legal opinions based on the hadith. This makes it uniquely valuable as a jurisprudential resource. He also wrote al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah (a description of the Prophet's ﷺ physical and moral characteristics). He died in or near Tirmidh in 279 AH and was reportedly blind in his later years.
