Fakhr al-Din Uthman ibn Ali al-Zayla'i (648–743 AH / 1250–1342 CE) was a Hanafi jurist of East African/Somali origin (Zayla is in Somalia) who became a major scholar in Cairo. His most important works are Tabyin al-Haqa'iq fi Sharh Kanz al-Daqa'iq (a commentary on the Hanafi text Kanz al-Daqa'iq by al-Nasafi) and Nasb al-Rayah li Ahadith al-Hidayah. Nasb al-Rayah is a landmark work documenting the hadith evidence for the legal positions taken in al-Hidayah, the foundational Hanafi text.
