Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir was a distinguished Tabi'i scholar and one of the most trusted hadith transmitters in Medina. He was the son of the companion al-Munkadir ibn Abdullah al-Taymi, may Allah be pleased with him. Born in Medina, he narrated from numerous companions including Jabir ibn Abdullah, Aisha, Abu Hurairah, and Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with them all. He was celebrated not only for the authenticity and breadth of his narrations but also for his exceptional piety, deep weeping in worship, and rigorous asceticism. He was known to spend long nights in prayer and is reported to have said that when the fear of death becomes light in one's heart, one's life has become corrupted. Scholars of hadith praised him in the highest terms: Malik ibn Anas considered him one of the most reliable of Medinan narrators, and Yahya ibn Maʿin declared him thiqah (trustworthy). His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all four Sunan collections, covering topics of prayer, fasting, the virtues of worship, and prophetic conduct. He died around 130 AH in Medina.
