Samura ibn Jundab al-Fazari (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who participated in several expeditions and later served as a governor of Basra under Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan. He narrated approximately 128 hadiths on topics including the prayer at the time of eclipse (kusuf), the prayer for rain, the rulings on animals slaughtered without pronouncing the name of Allah, and various prophetic supplications. One of his most-cited narrations is the account of the Prophet's long and detailed dream in which the Prophet ﷺ was shown scenes of people undergoing the consequences of their earthly deeds — a narration preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari of considerable length and religious significance. Some classical hadith scholars had technical discussions about a small number of his narrations regarding continuous chains, but he is generally accepted as a reliable Companion. He passed away around 58–60 AH. This entry is a variant romanization of the Companion also listed as Samurah ibn Jundub.
