Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ who participated in the Islamic military campaigns and later settled in Syria. He was known for his close association with the Prophet ﷺ and the large number of narrations he transmitted. He is particularly known for a detailed narration about the signs of the Last Hour and the traits of good and bad leaders: 'The best of your leaders are those whom you love and who love you, who pray for you and you pray for them; and the worst of your leaders are those whom you hate and who hate you, and whom you curse and who curse you.' This narration became a cornerstone reference in Islamic political ethics. He also narrated the famous hadith about seeking refuge from hunger, betrayal, and other afflictions. His narrations span topics of prayer, supplication, eschatology, leadership ethics, and the Prophet's personal character. They are preserved across Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, and other major collections, and are frequently cited in books of fiqh and ethics.
