Aws ibn al-Samit

Aws ibn al-Samit ibn Qays al-Ansari al-Khazraji (died approximately 30 AH) was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ and brother of Ubadah ibn al-Samit. He is significant primarily because of the incident that led to the revelation of Surah al-Mujadila (The Pleading Woman). His wife Khawla bint Tha'laba complained to the Prophet ﷺ that Aws had pronounced zihar (a pre-Islamic form of divorce) against her, and the Quran revealed the rulings on this in 58:1-4. He is counted among the Ansari companions.
