Dawud ibn Abdallah al-Fatani al-Shafi'i (1183–1263 AH / 1769–1847 CE) was the most prominent Islamic scholar from the Patani region of southern Thailand and is considered one of the greatest Islamic scholars in the history of the Malay world. He spent much of his life in Makkah, studying and teaching, and authored over 66 works in the Malay language on theology, fiqh, hadith, and Sufism. His works spread throughout the Malay archipelago and the Malay Peninsula, and he is credited with producing the most comprehensive Islamic library in the Malay language of his era. He is sometimes called 'al-Nawawi of the Malay world.'
