Ibn Abi Hatim al-Razi

Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Idris ibn al-Mundhir al-Razi, known as Ibn Abi Hatim, was a major hadith scholar and Quranic commentator from Rayy (modern Tehran). The son of the great hadith critic Abu Hatim al-Razi, he wrote extensively on hadith criticism in his al-Jarh wal-Ta'dil (Hadith Authentication), a multi-volume work assessing the reliability of thousands of hadith transmitters. He also authored a substantial Quranic commentary using hadith narrations.
