ابن عابدين الصغير
Ala ad-Din Muhammad ibn Muhammad Amin ibn Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Abidin ad-Dimashqi (1244-1306 AH / 1827-1889 CE) was a Damascene Hanafi jurist and the son of the great Ibn Abidin, author of the celebrated Radd al-Muhtar ala ad-Durr al-Mukhtar. He continued and supplemented his father's scholarly legacy.
Ala ad-Din ibn Abidin studied under his father and after his father's death in 1252 AH continued his scholarly work. He completed and edited several of his father's works and authored important supplements and clarifications. His most significant contribution is his editing and preparation of his father's major works for publication and his authorship of supplementary volumes and works in the same tradition.
He authored Qurrat Uyun al-Akhyar li-Takmilat Radd al-Muhtar (The Delight of the Eyes of the Good: A Supplement to Radd al-Muhtar), a supplementary volume to his father's great commentary, extending and completing discussions left unfinished. This work is an important continuation of the most comprehensive reference work in Hanafi jurisprudence.
He also authored independent works on Hanafi jurisprudence and served as a teacher in Damascus. Ala ad-Din represents the continuation of the distinguished Ibn Abidin scholarly family tradition in Damascene Hanafi scholarship. He passed away in Damascus in 1306 AH, continuing the extraordinary legal legacy of his father through his editorial and supplementary scholarship.
