ابن القاسم
Imam
Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim al-Atqi (128–191 AH / 745–806 CE) was the closest and most important student of Imam Malik ibn Anas. He studied under Malik for approximately 20 years in Medina. After Malik's death, he became the principal reference point for Maliki jurisprudence in Egypt. Al-Mudawwana, compiled in dialogue with Sahnun, preserves his transmission of Maliki positions on hundreds of legal questions. His opinions formed the core of what became standard Maliki doctrine. He was based in Egypt and trained many scholars who spread the Maliki school across North Africa and al-Andalus. Imam al-Shafi'i also benefited from studying with him when he came to Egypt.
