Biography

Abu Muhammad Abd al-Haqq ibn Ghalib ibn Atiyya al-Gharnatí al-Andalusí (480–541 AH) was a Maliki scholar and judge from Granada. His tafsir al-Muharrar al-Wajiz fi Tafsir al-Kitab al-Aziz is considered the most scholarly and well-organized Quranic commentary produced in al-Andalus, notable for its careful evaluation of narrations, grammatical analysis, and comparative jurisprudence. Ibn Khaldun praised it as superior to al-Zamakhshari's tafsir in methodology. He served as a judge and was known for combining legal expertise with encyclopedic knowledge of hadith and tafsir.
