إبراهيم بن محمد
Ibrahim ibn Muhammad was the youngest child and last son of Prophet Muhammad, born to Maria al-Qibtiyyah — the Coptic concubine gifted to the Prophet by the ruler of Egypt — in 8 AH in Madinah. His birth brought immense joy to the Prophet, who named him Ibrahim after the great patriarch. Ibrahim was nursed by a woman named Umm Sayf (wife of Abu Sayf, a blacksmith of Madinah) as well as by Maria. The Prophet visited him regularly and was deeply attached to this son. Ibrahim died in infancy at approximately 16-18 months in 10 AH. On the day of his death, a solar eclipse occurred. Some companions thought the eclipse was a sign of mourning for the Prophet's son. The Prophet addressed this directly in a sermon: 'The sun and the moon are two of Allah's signs. They do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. When you see them, supplicate to Allah and pray.' Upon visiting his dying son, the Prophet's eyes filled with tears and he said: 'The eyes shed tears and the heart grieves, but we say only what pleases our Lord. O Ibrahim, we are grieved by your parting.' Ibrahim's death meant the Prophet left this world with no surviving male descendants — fulfilling Surah al-Kawthar's promise that it is his enemy who is truly cut off. He was buried in al-Baqi cemetery.
