Jundub ibn Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) was a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ who is known for his firm stance against sorcery and prohibited practices. He is reported to have witnessed or carried out the execution of a sorcerer in early Islamic history, an act that became a point of detailed scholarly discussion on the legal ruling regarding magic practitioners in Islamic law. His narrations include hadiths on the prohibition of sorcery (sihr), the importance of sincerity in acts of worship, and the proper conduct of the Muslim. A significant narration attributed to him in Sahih al-Bukhari deals with the principle that deeds are judged by their intentions and warned against the loss of sincerity. He participated in several battles and settled in Basra. He is counted among the reliable Companion narrators and his reports are preserved in the major hadith collections. The scholarly discussion around his act against the sorcerer influenced classical rulings in the Hanbali and other legal schools. He passed away in the early Umayyad period.
