Jubayr ibn Mut'im ibn Adi al-Qurashi al-Nawfali, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the Quraysh tribe who embraced Islam after the conquest of Mecca. Before his Islam, he had come to Medina to ransom prisoners from the Battle of Badr, and during that visit he heard the Prophet ﷺ reciting Surah al-Tur in prayer — and narrated that when the Prophet ﷺ reached the verse 'Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators?', his heart nearly took flight from wonder at its meaning, drawing him toward Islam. He was recognized as one of the great authorities on Arab genealogy and tribal lineages among the companions and Quraysh. He narrated hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ on theology, the divine names and attributes, prayer, and matters of creed, including narrations about the names of the Prophet ﷺ himself. His narrations are preserved in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the Sunan collections and are cited in discussions of theology, the attributes of Allah, and the sciences of the Quran.
