Muhammad Abd al-Rauf (1917-2004 CE) was an Egyptian-American Islamic scholar who served as the first director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Washington D.C. He earned his PhD from Harvard University and became one of the early builders of Islamic institutions in America. He authored works on Islamic practice in the West, including Marriage in Islam, which addressed Islamic marriage law for Muslim communities in non-Muslim-majority countries. He was a pioneer of Islamic scholarship in America.
