Biography

Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani was one of the most important jurists in Islamic history. A student of Abu Hanifa and then Abu Yusuf, he authored the six foundational texts of Hanafi jurisprudence. His Muwatta commentary and the Siyar al-Kabir (on international relations in Islamic law) are particularly significant. His works form the backbone of written Hanafi fiqh.
