مقبل الوادعي
Sheikh
Muqbil ibn Hadi ibn Muqbil al-Wadi'i (1933-2001 CE / 1352-1422 AH) was a Yemeni hadith scholar who founded Dar al-Hadith in the village of Dammaj in Sa'dah province, Yemen. Born in the Wadi'ah area of Sa'dah, he traveled to Saudi Arabia where he studied at the Islamic University of Madinah under scholars including Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz and Muhammad Nasir ad-Din al-Albani.
Al-Wadi'i returned to Yemen and established Dar al-Hadith in Dammaj, which grew into one of the most important centers for hadith study in the Muslim world, attracting students from dozens of countries. His works include as-Sahih al-Musnad mimma laysa fi as-Sahihayn, a collection of authentic hadith not found in Bukhari and Muslim; ar-Riyad al-Jannah fir-Radd ala A'da as-Sunnah, a defense of the Sunnah; and ash-Shafa'ah, on the concept of intercession. He also authored works on hadith methodology and narrator criticism.
Al-Wadi'i was known for his strict adherence to hadith-based scholarship and his emphasis on authentic narrations in all matters of religion. Dar al-Hadith in Dammaj became a center of Salafi learning that produced graduates who went on to establish schools and circles of learning across Yemen, East Africa, and Southeast Asia. Despite operating in difficult conditions in one of Yemen's most remote regions, he built an institution of international significance. He passed away in Jeddah while receiving medical treatment.
