موسى شاهين لاشين
Sheikh
Musa Shahin Lashin (1338-1430 AH / 1920-2009 CE) was an Egyptian scholar and professor at al-Azhar University, specializing in hadith sciences. He authored Fath al-Mun'im Sharh Sahih Muslim (The Opening of the Bestower: Commentary on Sahih Muslim), a comprehensive modern commentary on Imam Muslim's Sahih.
Fath al-Mun'im is a ten-volume modern commentary that explains the hadiths of Sahih Muslim in clear contemporary Arabic, providing context, linguistic explanations, jurisprudential implications, and discussions of the scholars' opinions on each hadith. It is designed for both scholarly reference and accessible study. The work fills an important gap in the commentary literature on Sahih Muslim, as previous comprehensive commentaries — notably Imam an-Nawawi's al-Minhaj — were written in classical Arabic that requires significant scholarly preparation to use effectively.
Musa Shahin Lashin taught at al-Azhar for decades, contributing to the education of numerous students in the hadith sciences. His commentary on Sahih Muslim reflects the al-Azhar tradition of combining traditional hadith scholarship with accessibility for modern readers.
He also authored other works on the Islamic sciences. He passed away in 2009, having served al-Azhar as a teacher and author throughout his career. His Fath al-Mun'im remains a valued accessible commentary on Sahih Muslim used in both traditional and academic study of the hadith sciences.
