Qais ibn Abi Hazim al-Bajali al-Ahmasi al-Kufan was one of the most distinguished Tabi'i scholars in Islamic history, holding a distinction that no one else is known to have shared: he narrated from each and every one of the ten companions explicitly promised Paradise by the Prophet ﷺ — Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, al-Zubayr, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, Sa'id ibn Zayd, and Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah. He also narrated from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq's daughter Asma' bint Abi Bakr. His narrations from Abu Bakr are particularly valuable as he was among the very few Tabi'in who narrated directly from the first caliph. He was a Kufan scholar of the highest standing and his narrations appear in all six major hadith collections. He was regarded by hadith scholars as highly reliable and authoritative, representing one of the broadest testimonies to the companion generation of any individual narrator. He passed away around 97–98 AH, having served as a living encyclopaedia of companion knowledge for the scholars of Kufa.
