شرحبيل بن حسنة
Sharhabil ibn Hasanah was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ and one of the four commanders appointed by Abu Bakr al-Siddiq for the conquest of Syria. His mother's name was Hasanah, hence his patronymic. He participated in all the major campaigns of the Syrian conquest, including the pivotal Battle of Yarmouk in 15 AH where the Byzantine forces were decisively defeated under the overall command of Khalid ibn al-Walid. He served as governor of Jordan and Palestine under Umar ibn al-Khattab. He died in 18 AH in the great plague of Amwas (a town in Palestine), which swept through the Syrian army and killed thousands of companions including Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah and Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan. The plague of Amwas was one of the most devastating events of the early Islamic period.
