سهيل بن عمرو
Suhayl ibn Amr was one of the leading orators and negotiators of Quraysh. He was sent by Quraysh to negotiate with the Prophet ﷺ at Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH, where he played a central role in drafting the controversial treaty. At the time of the treaty, Umar ibn al-Khattab was angry at the terms and later asked the Prophet if he could have Suhayl's two front teeth pulled out so he could never give another speech against Islam. The Prophet refused. At the Conquest of Makkah (8 AH), Suhayl embraced Islam. After the Prophet's death, when news of his passing reached Makkah, Suhayl gave a sermon to the people of Makkah urging them to remain firm in Islam and not to apostatize — a sermon whose eloquence and passion helped Makkah remain Muslim during the Riddah period. This impressed Umar greatly, who recalled his earlier desire to pull out Suhayl's teeth and reflected on how Allah had guided this very tongue to defend Islam. Suhayl participated in the conquests of Syria and died in 18 AH during the plague of Amwas.
