Sulayman ibn Umar ibn Mansur al-Ujayly al-Azhari al-Jamal (d. 1204 AH / 1790 CE) was an Egyptian Shafi'i scholar who studied and taught at al-Azhar in Cairo. He is best known for his monumental hashiyah (supercommentary) on Tafsir al-Jalalayn, titled al-Futuhat al-Ilahiyyah bi-Tawdih Tafsir al-Jalalayn, which became one of the most widely used traditional commentaries on that foundational text. His commentary draws extensively on classical exegetical sources and clarifies the grammatical and rhetorical dimensions of the Jalalayn. He also wrote on fiqh and other Islamic sciences. His work has been continuously studied in traditional madrasahs and Azhari institutions for over two centuries.
