He narrated hadiths from a remarkable number of companions including Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muadh ibn Jabal, Umar ibn al-Khattab, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, Khalid ibn al-Walid, and many others. He was considered one of the leading jurists of Kufa in his generation and a key transmitter of the legal opinions of Ali ibn Abi Talib. He participated in several major events of early Islamic history including battles during the period of the caliphate. He died around 83 AH. His narrations cover a wide range of topics from prayer and legal rulings to the virtues of the companions and prophetic conduct. Among his notable narrations is the hadith transmitting the complete form of the Abrahamic prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ (salawat ibrahimiyyah) that are recited in the prayer's tashahhud.
