طليحة بن خويلد
Tulayha ibn Khuwaylid al-Asadi had a remarkable journey from false prophet to martyred Muslim warrior. He claimed prophethood during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ and gathered a large following among the Banu Asad tribe. After the Prophet's death, he was among the most serious of the Riddah threats, leading a coalition of tribes against Madinah. Abu Bakr sent Khalid ibn al-Walid against him. At the Battle of Buzakha in 11-12 AH, Tulayha's army was routed, though Tulayha himself escaped to Syria (which was still under Byzantine control at the time). After his defeat, Tulayha genuinely converted to Islam and made his way back. He returned as a sincere Muslim and participated in the Muslim conquests. He fought in the conquest of Iraq and Persia and was present at several major battles. He was killed at the Battle of Nihawand in 21 AH — the decisive battle that broke Persian military power — dying as a martyr for the faith he had once opposed. His transformation from false prophet to martyr is one of the most remarkable personal stories of the Riddah period.
