Sa'id ibn Jubayr al-Asadi al-Walibi was a leading Tabi'i scholar, jurist, and hadith narrator of Kufa. He was a devoted student of Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and transmitted a vast corpus of tafsir narrations and hadith from him. He was renowned across the Islamic world for his deep knowledge of Quranic exegesis, Islamic jurisprudence, and hadith. He also studied under Abdullah ibn Umar and other Companions. He was known for his extraordinary courage and principled refusal to compromise his convictions before rulers — a quality that ultimately led to his martyrdom. He was captured by the orders of the tyrant Hajjaj ibn Yusuf, who executed him in 95 AH for refusing to endorse what Sa'id considered unjust and impermissible. His death was mourned deeply by the scholarly community, and Sufyan al-Thawri reportedly said that Sa'id ibn Jubayr died while all the people of the earth were in need of his knowledge. His narrations appear in all six major hadith collections.
