Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani, may Allah be pleased with him, was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from the tribe of Khushain. He pledged allegiance to the Prophet and participated in the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. He is particularly known for his narrations on the Islamic rules of hunting — including the ruling on eating game caught by trained hunting dogs and game caught using a bow and arrow. His direct questions to the Prophet ﷺ about these specific matters resulted in narrations that became foundational legal rulings in Islamic jurisprudence on what animals are permissible to hunt and how. He also narrated hadiths on using vessels belonging to non-Muslims — a topic of practical importance for Muslims living among or trading with non-Muslims. His narrations appear in Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and the four Sunan collections. This entry is a variant listing of the same companion listed at index 249.
