Biography

Urwah ibn al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (23–94 AH) was a leading Tabi'i scholar and one of the Seven Fuqaha' (jurists) of Madinah. He was the son of the companion al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam and the nephew of Aisha bint Abi Bakr. He narrated extensively from Aisha and preserved much of the seerah. He is considered one of the first to write about the life of the Prophet ﷺ systematically, making him a pioneer in seerah scholarship. His students included al-Zuhri, who transmitted much of this knowledge to later generations.
