Ziyad ibn Jubair ibn Hayyah al-Thaqafi al-Basri was a Tabi'i scholar from Basra who transmitted hadiths from major companions including Abdullah ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, and other senior figures, may Allah be pleased with them. He was the son of Jubair ibn Hayyah, who was himself a Tabi'i of some standing. Ziyad narrated reports on important topics including the rites of Hajj and the etiquette of commercial transactions and trade. Among his narrations is a well-known report from Ibn Umar about the cutting of nails, the practice of Hajj, and related matters. He also transmitted narrations about the Prophet's ﷺ approach to trade and the avoidance of deception in commerce. Hadith scholars considered him a trustworthy narrator and accepted his narrations without significant reservation. His reports appear in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim as well as in the Sunan collections of Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi. He is one of the reliable second-generation transmitters who preserved the prophetic tradition through the scholarly networks of Basra.
