Spiritual Retreat in Cave Hira

In the years before prophethood, Muhammad regularly retreated to Cave Hira on Jabal al-Nur (Mountain of Light) for meditation and contemplation. He would spend days and nights in solitary worship, reflecting on creation and the falsehood of idol worship. Khadijah would send provisions to him. These retreats of tahannuth (devotion) prepared his heart for the momentous revelation that would soon come.
