Revelation of Ayat al-Kursi

Ayat al-Kursi (The Verse of the Throne, Quran 2:255) was revealed in Medina as part of Surah al-Baqarah. It is considered the greatest verse in the Quran. The Prophet ﷺ asked Ubayy ibn Ka'b: 'Which verse in the Book of Allah is the greatest?' and Ubayy replied with Ayat al-Kursi. The Prophet struck his chest approvingly and said: 'Rejoice in this knowledge, O Abu al-Mundhir.' This verse describes Allah's absolute sovereignty, knowledge, and power over all creation.
