Surah al-Baqarah, the longest surah in the Quran (286 verses), was revealed over a period in Medina. It addresses a wide range of legislation: prayer, fasting, Hajj, marriage, divorce, commerce, inheritance, and warfare. It includes Ayat al-Kursi (2:255), the greatest verse, and concludes with a supplication that became beloved by Muslims. The Prophet said: 'Do not turn your houses into graves. Shaytan flees from the house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited.'
