A foundational work on Islamic legal maxims (qawa'id fiqhiyyah) from the Shafi'i perspective. As-Suyuti organized the universal principles that underpin Islamic jurisprudence, such as 'certainty is not removed by doubt' and 'harm must be eliminated.' These maxims serve as tools for deriving rulings in new situations and have been incorporated into modern Islamic legal codes, including the Ottoman Majallah.
