And lying guides to immorality which guides to Jahannam, and a person would lie until he is written with Allaah as a liar."fwoJ From among the characteristic of a hypocrite, described to us by the Prophet ~ is that: " ... when he speaks he lies ... "l1011 Hypocrites are the worst of people, because of their evil deeds [100] Bukhaaree & Muslim. [101] Narrated by Abu Hurayrah -*': Allah's Messenger ~ said: "The signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie; and whenever he promises, he breaks his promise; and whenever he is entrusted, he betrays (proves to be dishonest)." (Bukhaaree & Muslim) Guarding the Tongue which involve deception. Consequently, their punishment would be the most severe on the Day of Judgment. So, brothers and sisters, avoid lying at all cost, so as to save yourself from being even considered to be associated with the worst of mankind. 'Aa'ishah ~ informing us about the Messenger of Alla ah ~ said: "There is no character that is as abhorrent to the Messenger of Allaah as lie. If he is aware of anything of such from anyone, he would not keep it off his mind until he knows that the person has repented. '1102J Situations In Which Lying Is Allowed: A person is only allowed to lie if it involves the following: • Making peace between two Muslims. • Lying to the enemy in battle to protect other Muslims. • The lying of a man to his wife and a woman to her husband (to keep their relationship harmonious). However, this should not be understood to mean cases of clea r lies. Rather, it is the extolling of the virtues of each other, by using pleasant words, although it contains exaggeration. And Allaah knows best. All of the above are established in the following hadith of the Prophet of Allaah ~ : [102) Ahmad & AI-Haakim.
