Introduction to Magic and Envy

An Islamic treatment of two spiritual ailments that the Quran specifically addresses: sihr (magic) and hasad (envy). The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have been affected by magic, and the last two chapters of the Quran (Mu'awwidhatayn) were revealed partly as protection against these harms.

The book covers: the nature and reality of magic in Islamic theology; whether magic has real effects or is merely illusion; the Quranic story of Harut and Marut and what it teaches about magic; the prohibition of practicing or seeking magic; how magic works through the jinn; the Islamic treatment and cure for those affected by magic; and the distinction between magic and miracles.

The section on envy explains: the spiritual and physical harms caused by the evil eye (ayn); the Quranic and Sunnah evidence for its reality; who is most susceptible; the Islamic remedies including recitation of specific Quranic verses and supplications; and how to protect oneself and one's family through the prescribed prophetic means.
